The Ministry of Basic Education in collaboration with Botswana Science Association hosts the 15th International Junior Science Olympiad in Gaborone from the 2nd December until 11th December 2018.More than 50 countries are expected to take part in the 15th edition of IJSO.
IJSO is an annual academic competition that covers physics, chemistry and biology at the same time, for junior science students .The competition is known for its intricacy as it requires wide knowledge range in all the three basic sciences. Top junior science students from each country are selected to participate in the competition and each is given a chance to compete with their counterparts from across the globe. Learn More
The students take part in two individual tests, the multiple choice and the theoretical test .This is then followed by the practical where the students work as team to achieve one goal.
The practical comprises of questions from the three sciences as well. This aims to achieve the goal of the competition which is to introduce the students at a young age to the actual world of science.
Similarly Botswana Science Association aims to achieve high standard of science education to all levels of education in Botswana and hence its interest in the science Olympiad.
